Challenge

Centennial Mandalong required a new State significant development consent to regulate its approved existing Mandalong Mine Operations, extend existing underground mining operations into the Southern Extension Area and, utilise existing and proposed new surface infrastructure.

The Project included extending the life of mine by an additional 21 years, extracting up to approximately 130 million tonnes of additional run-of-mine (ROM) coal from within an additional 40 longwall panels and extracting up to 6 million tonnes of ROM coal per annum, along with significant additional surface infrastructure and employment.

SLR were engaged to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in accordance with the New South Wales Government’s environmental assessment requirements, industry standards and legislative framework under which the Project is permissible. The EIS aims to provide a comprehensive and focused assessment of the pertinent matters to a level of detail commensurate with the scale of the project.
