Our areas of expertise include the Historic Environment (below and above ground archaeological remains, the built heritage, historic landscapes), and cultural heritage (intangible heritage such as sacred space, customs, ethnicity, language and place name studies, literary and artistic associations).

Archaeological or conservation qualifications, wide-spread knowledge and experience, and diverse skills characterise the team, all of whom are at Senior level and above. As consultants we need to be thoroughly conversant with the legislation and guidance within all geographies, and to be confident in negotiation with clients and regulators over the significance of heritage assets, the degree of threat, methods that can be employed for investigation, as well as costs and timescales.

  • Simon McCudden Principal Consultant
    Simon McCudden

    Simon has 30 years’ experience of working on a variety of environmental and construction projects, as a Project Archaeologist, Project Manager, and as a Principal Consultant. He has led and managed heritage teams throughout the life cycle of a project, from the survey and field requirements through to final reports and attending public inquiries as an expert witness for archaeology.

    Simon has experience in the assessment of risks to/from archaeology/heritage when managing projects for a wide variety of clients. Simon has a detailed knowledge and experience in the negotiation and delivery of specific agreements with consultees regarding archaeology and heritage issues as part of Statements of Common Ground (SoCG).

  • Chris Morley Principal Heritage Consultant
    Chris Morley

    A Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists, Chris has over 15 years’ experience in commercial heritage and archaeology. He has advised on major green-field and brown-field applications across sectors as diverse as national infrastructure, on- and off- shore green energy, minerals, agro-industrial and residential. Alongside project management, his specialties include advising on site feasibility, opportunities and constraints; negotiating proportionate scopes of desk-based and field investigation with heritage consultees; mitigation by design strategies; and the intricacies of heritage ‘setting’.

    Chris has particular expertise in the area of heritage planning policy and case law, and the role of both within the wider planning system. He has acted as expert witness, on behalf of both private developers and local planning authorities, at numerous public inquiries involving complex heritage issues.

  • Alastair Becket Associate Archaeologist
    Alastair Becket

    Ally is a heritage professional with 20 years of experience in the provision of archaeological and cultural heritage services to commercial projects. He has developed particular expertise within the power and renewables sectors via a number of large-scale projects: designing and implementing archaeological mitigation for the construction of overhead lines, wind and solar farms, underground cable routes and substations; supporting clients with the procurement of archaeological services; and project management of complex linear route developments. He has supported clients in a diverse range of other industries, including mineral extraction and housebuilding.
