Proposed Development of the Kerbehuk Ridge Wind Farm (previously Namdeb Wind (Phase 1) Project), Southern Coastal Mine, Oranjemund, Namibia (MEFT Ref: 230428001399)

Namdeb Diamond Corporation (Pty) Ltd (Namdeb), as part of the DeBeers Group and the Namibian Government, is proposing the development of the Kerbehuk Ridge Wind Farm, a ~34MW Wind Energy Facility (WEF) located approximately 50km north of Oranjemund, within the Southern Coastal Mine area of Mining Licence 43.

The development and operation of the Namdeb Wind (Phase 1) Project is subject to an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) being granted by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) in terms of the Environmental Management Act, 2007 (No. 7 of 2007) (EMA).

Granting of the ECC is subject to an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) being undertaken. SLR Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SLR) has been appointed to undertake the necessary EIA process.

Status

ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT REPORT AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC REVIEW

A draft EA Report has been prepared as part of the EIA process being undertaken for the proposed Project. This report has been prepared in compliance the EIA Regulations, 2012 and Section 35 of the EMA and is based on the Plan of Study presented in the final Scoping Report, which was accepted by MEFT on 22 September 2023 (official stamp date 2 October 2023).

The draft EA Report is being made available for a three-week (21-day) review and comment period, from 14 March to 5 April 2024.

I&APs are requested to please forward their comments to SLR by no later than 5 April 2024.

Public information meetings have been arranged to inform interested and affected parties (I&APs) about the above-mentioned project and to provide a platform for I&APs to raise comments, concerns and queries. Details of the public information meetings are included below.
