Namwaste - Proposed Development of the Namwaste Management Facility (NMF) for the treatment and disposal of general and hazardous waste in the Erongo region

Namwaste (Pty) Ltd (Namwaste), as part of the Rent-A-Drum Group, is proposing to develop a new general and hazardous waste treatment and disposal facility in the Erongo region of Namibia to be known as the Namwaste Management Facility (NMF).

The development of the Namwaste Management Facility is subject to an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) being granted by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) in terms of the Environmental Management Act, 2007 (No. 7 of 2007) (EMA).

Granting of the ECC is subject to an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) being undertaken. SLR Environmental Consulting (Namibia) (Pty) Ltd (SLR) has been appointed to undertake the necessary EIA process on behalf of Namwaste.

The Draft Scoping Report (DSR) prepared for the proposed NMF has been made available for public review by Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs).

I&APs are invited to review the contents of this report and comment on the environmental and social aspects associated with the proposed project and the findings of the scoping process, including the terms of reference for further assessments. This report has been made available for a 30 day comment and review period, from 15 November to 15 December 2023.
