Challenge

The Gladstone Liquefied Natural Gas (GLNGP) project was commissioned in 2007 when Santos commenced the development project to convert natural gas, including coal seam gas from the Bowen and Surat Basins, into Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for export to Asia. The project involved the development of gas fields in the Bowen and Surat Basins, the construction of a 420 kilometre underground gas transmission pipeline to Gladstone and a two-train liquefaction and storage facility on Curtis Island in Gladstone. GLNG has been supplying two long-term Asian customers since the first cargo was shipped in October 2015.

Solution

SLR has been engaged by Santos to provide a range of environmental services, including an assessment of noise emissions, noise mitigation design (drill rigs and gas processing facilities), environmental auditing against requirements of environmental authority conditions, air quality dispersion modelling and impact assessments for gas compression facilities, occupational noise assessment (of the GLNG facility on Curtis Island).

Acoustics

Our assessment includes detailed operational SoundPLAN noise modelling and mitigation design of the proposed facilities associated with numerous gas compression facilities in the Surat basin. Detailed noise measurements, and SoundPLAN modelling and mitigation design of CSG drill rigs and construction activities were also provided. Preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement chapter for noise and vibration for the GLNG project, including all upstream, midstream and downstream (GLNG plant on Curtis Island) facilities.

Third Party Environmental Audits

Undertaking a third party environmental audit of environmental compliance performance against the requirements of the Environmental authority for Fairview project area.

Air Quality and Greenhouse Gas

Undertake an ambient air monitoring program, air shed model and review of air quality conditions in the environmental authority for the fairview field in order to assist in streamlining compliance conditions.

Preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement chapter for noise and vibration, including all upstream, midstream and downstream (GLNG plant on Curtis Island) facilities.

Review greenhouse gas emission data and prepare report to assist with satisfying regulatory requirements.

Occupational Noise

Undertake a detailed occupational noise survey and assessment of the GLNG facility on Curtis Island in order to satisfy workplace health and safety regulatory requirements.
