Challenge

Bunya Adventure Playground is the feature play area for the Riverparks estate in Upper Caboolture. Located at the end of Dobson Lane, the playground is ‘anchored’ by two existing mature Bunya Pines which are a reference point for the local community.

The design aims to create an exciting adventure playground in a natural setting that encourages movement and activity as well as offering unique elements to enhance the identity of the park and estate. The playground is at the heart of the community and reflects the Riverparks motto: “Close to Nature, Close to Perfect”.

The Playground integrates with the natural landform and existing vegetation to provide a range of activities and ‘adventures’ for different age groups.

Solution

The design challenged the notion of using a flat site based on the equipment selection and standard. In this instance, the playground equipment was designed to respond to the landform and to maximise opportunities for climbing and sliding activities that naturally engage children.

There were also opportunities to make the play equipment ‘art pieces’ within the landscape to enhance the experience of the park.

The Playground is part of a larger open space and riparian corridor that adjoins the Caboolture River. Capturing the scenic qualities of the area was at the heart of the design to insure that views of the wider river corridor were always visible and embraced by the community as part of the estate.
