Biography

Dr. Tom Patterson has over 30 years of experience as an environmental chemist working on geochemistry; mine waste and mine water management; remedial investigation, design, and construction; risk assessment; and environmental fate and transport analyses for mining and hazardous waste sites. Primary industrial sectors I have worked in are mining and minerals, aerospace, electronics, wood treatment, and hazardous waste. Areas of technical expertise include geochemistry, evaluation of baseline water chemistry and impacts, chemical fate and transport, environmental remediation, strategic planning and cost analysis, mine waste management, project management, hydrogeology, support for environmental decision-making using the risk-based approach, and data analysis to support risk assessments and impact evaluations. Expert on issues of perchlorate in the environment (occurrence, sources, remediation, treatment, health effects, regulatory issues, etc.).
