SLR, alongside Public Works Partners and the City of Hudson, was recognized with a Gold Award for Hudson 2035 at the Upstate New York Chapter of the American Planning Association's annual conference in Albany on October 15, 2026.
About the Award
The Gold Award for Comprehensive Planning recognizes excellence in planning practice and community-focused outcomes. Hudson 2035 was recognized for its approach to shaping the City's long-term vision, balancing growth and investment with equity, sustainability, and community preservation.
About the Project
In 2024, Public Works Partners and SLR were selected to prepare a Comprehensive Plan to guide the City of Hudson's strategic decision-making over the next 10 years. The City's previous comprehensive plan had not been updated in more than 20 years, during which time Hudson experienced significant demographic shifts, increasing income inequality, affordable housing challenges, and economic changes driven by tourism, second-home ownership, and the rise of remote work. The project sought to create an updated roadmap reflecting current conditions, challenges, and opportunities while incorporating broad-based community and stakeholder input, including hard-to-reach populations.
Over approximately 18 months, SLR and Public Works Partners partnered with City staff through a thoughtfully designed community and stakeholder engagement process. SLR's role included assessing existing land use, zoning, infrastructure, housing, demographic, and economic conditions; collaborating with City staff, community leaders, residents, and business owners; and developing a consensus-based vision and goals for the City's future.
SLR's existing conditions analysis provided a compelling narrative supported by maps and graphics that illustrated the changes residents were experiencing. Through collaborative visioning and strategic planning sessions, the consultant team and City developed a future land use plan and policy priorities designed to balance growth and investment with equity, affordability, and community preservation.
What is the Plan's Current Status?
The project has culminated in Hudson 2035, a comprehensive plan that establishes a long-term framework for the City's strategic decision-making and future growth. The plan reinforces the City's commitment to sustainable and equitable development, economic vitality, community well-being, cultural preservation, and environmental stewardship. It will help shape a resilient, vibrant, and inclusive future for all Hudson residents.
