Challenge
Altus Group is a leading provider of traffic management and infrastructure services operating across Australia and New Zealand. As the organisation prepared for its first year of mandatory climate-related disclosures under the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS), it faced the challenge of establishing robust foundations across governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics and targets. As a Group 1 reporting entity from FY26, Altus needed to respond to evolving regulatory requirements, identify, and assess climate-related risks and opportunities across a geographically diverse operation, and demonstrate climate resilience in line with ASRS expectations, within tight reporting timeframes.
Solution
SLR supported Altus through a staged program combining an ASRS readiness diagnostic, roadmap development, and climate scenario analysis.
The project commenced with an ASRS introduction workshop and detailed review of existing governance, risk, and reporting practices. A gap analysis was undertaken to assess alignment with ASRS requirements and inform the development of a clear, practical roadmap outlining priority actions, timelines, and responsibilities for FY26 and beyond.
In parallel, our team conducted a qualitative climate scenario analysis aligned with ASRS and Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) S2 requirements. This included identification and assessment of physical and transition climate risks and opportunities across Altus’ value chain, tested against multiple climate scenarios and short, medium, and long-term horizons. Site-specific and regional climate data, stakeholder interviews, and sector-informed transition assumptions were used to assess exposure, vulnerability, and adaptive capacity. A resilience assessment was then completed to evaluate Altus’ ability to respond to climate-related impacts and inform future transition planning.
Impact
The project provided Altus with a clear and defensible pathway to ASRS compliance, supporting readiness for FY26 reporting and increasing assurance expectations over time. Key climate risks and opportunities were identified, prioritised, and linked to operational, financial, and strategic considerations. The climate scenario analysis strengthened Altus’ understanding of its exposure to extreme weather, energy transition pressures, and regulatory change, while also highlighting opportunities to build resilience and support future growth.
SLR’s work established a strong foundation for transparent climate disclosures and equipped Altus with the insights and tools needed to integrate climate considerations into governance, risk management, and long-term strategy.
