Biography

Josh Jacobs is a sustainability strategist and technical advisor with more than 18 years of experience supporting organizations across the built environment, manufacturing, government, and procurement sectors. His expertise spans sustainable building programs, environmental policy, responsible procurement, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, life cycle assessment (LCA), product transparency, corporate sustainability reporting, and standards development. Josh works with manufacturers, building owners, designers, architects, engineers, developers, and institutional clients to navigate evolving sustainability requirements, codes, rating systems, and purchasing frameworks while advancing environmental performance and organizational sustainability goals.

Throughout his career, Josh has played a leading role in the development and implementation of sustainability standards and building programs used globally. He has served in leadership positions with numerous organizations, including Chair of the USGBC LEED Steering Committee, Chair of the USGBC Pilot Credit Committee, Chairman of the U.S. Mirror Committee for ISO 20400 Sustainable Procurement, and Vice Chair of ASHRAE 189.1, the standard that forms the technical basis of the International Green Construction Code (IgCC). He has also contributed to the development of sustainable building, procurement, and environmental performance criteria through participation in more than 50 sustainability-focused committees and working groups.

Prior to joining SLR, Josh led environmental codes and standards initiatives for UL, where he worked with regulators, manufacturers, designers, institutions, and multinational organizations to advance sustainable procurement practices, environmental transparency, human health impacts and sustainability-focused product programs. He is a frequent speaker, moderator, and guest lecturer on sustainable buildings, embodied carbon, procurement, and environmental policy, having presented at industry conferences and events throughout North America, Europe, South America, Asia, and Australia along with frequent podcast and webinar appearances. Josh holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
