Mainstream - Proposed Construction of a Radio Mast, near the town of Beaufort West in the Western Cape Province

Beaufort West Wind Farm (Pty) Ltd (‘Beaufort West Wind Farm’) / is proposing to install one (1) Radio Mast, up to 90 m in height, on the authorised 132kV/400kV Linking Station (On the remaining extent of Portion 1 of Farm No. 15 of Trakas Kuilen), located on the Beaufort West Cluster of wind farm developments, near the town of Beaufort West in the Western Cape Province. The radio mast is required by Eskom Holdings Ltd in order for the Linking Station to be able to communicate via Radio frequency to other Linking stations in the area.

The proposed site is located approximately 60 km south of the town of Beaufort West in the Prince Albert Local Municipality, within the Central Karoo District Municipality of the Western Cape Province.

The proposed renewable energy development requires an Environmental Authorisation (EA) from the Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning (WC DEADP).

SLR Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SLR) has been appointed as the independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) by Mainstream to undertake the required Basic Assessment Process in line with the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (No. 107 of 1998) for the proposed project.

Status

Notice is hereby given, in terms of the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2014 (Government Notice Regulation 982 of 2014) promulgated under NEMA, that the Basic Assessment Report (BAR) prepared for the above-mentioned project has been made available for a 30-day public review and comment period from 11 November - 12 December 2022.

Should you wish to comment on any aspect of the BAR, comments should be forwarded to SLR at the email address and telephone number shown above. For comments to be included in the BAR prepared for the decision-making purposes, they should reach SLR by no later than 12 December 2022.

By providing your personal information to submit a comment, you will be included in the SLR an Interested and Affected Party (I&AP) database, and you consent to SLR managing your information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (No. 4 of 2013). It is assumed that as an I&AP for this Project you authorise SLR to retain and use your Personal Information as part of a contact database for this and/or other Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) and that you confirm your acceptance for SLR to contact you regarding this and/or other ESIA processes.
