SLR has acquired Spectrum Ecology & Spatial (Spectrum), a highly regarded Western Australian consultancy specialising in ecology, biodiversity and rehabilitation monitoring. The acquisition brings together complementary scientific, spatial and technology capabilities, creating new opportunities to help clients see, understand and respond to ecological change.
Based in Perth, Spectrum works with major mining and infrastructure clients across flora and fauna surveys, biodiversity assessment, ecological monitoring and rehabilitation projects.
The Spectrum team includes ecologists, botanists, zoologists, spatial specialists and technology professionals with extensive experience supporting projects across Western Australia. Its technical expertise, strong reputation and established client relationships complement SLR’s existing ecology and biodiversity services.
The acquisition significantly expands SLR’s ecological presence in Western Australia and strengthens the specialist expertise available to clients across Australia. It also creates greater capacity to support major and complex projects across mining, infrastructure, rehabilitation and natural capital.
“Spectrum brings together an exceptional combination of specialist ecological expertise, spatial capability and technology. Adding these strengths to SLR expands what we can offer clients, particularly in Western Australia, and creates exciting opportunities to develop new approaches to some of the complex environmental challenges our clients are facing.”
Paul Wilkinson, Executive Director for Asia-Pacific
"Spectrum Ecology and Tyton Ecological Intelligence were built on a shared belief that better environmental decisions start with better insight. Joining SLR creates an opportunity to expand that approach at a much greater scale, combining deep scientific expertise with a multidisciplinary sustainability offering. We're excited about what this means for our clients and our people, and the opportunity to help organisations respond to environmental challenges with greater confidence."

Bringing ecological expertise, data and technology together
Spectrum also brings advanced capabilities in GIS, remote sensing and spatial intelligence, including the Tyton EI platform developed alongside the business. Tyton applies machine learning to drone and satellite imagery to support vegetation mapping, ecological monitoring and spatial analysis.
Combined with SLR’s scientific expertise, these capabilities create the foundation for a more integrated approach to Ecological Intelligence, bringing ecological expertise, environmental data and advanced technology together in new ways.
This approach will help clients better understand ecological systems at scale, identify patterns and changes earlier, and make more informed decisions across planning, management and rehabilitation activities.
This acquisition marks an important step in SLR's Ecological Intelligence journey. Over the coming months, SLR will share more about how ecological expertise, data and technology are being brought together to deliver deeper environmental insight and support better sustainability outcomes.
