Biography

Juan Jesús Escobar Sulca is a Senior Geotechnical Engineer based in SLR’s London office, specialising in mine waste and tailings engineering. His expertise includes tailings storage facilities, earth dams, waste rock dumps, slope stability, geotechnical monitoring, and instrumentation, numerical modelling, and advanced laboratory testing.

Juan holds an MSc in Geotechnical and Earthquake Engineering from Imperial College London and a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP). Alongside his professional work, he teaches geotechnical engineering subjects at PUCP.

He is actively involved in the geotechnical profession, serving as Vice President of the Peruvian Technical Committee on Tailings Dams (CT200), a Director of the Peruvian Geotechnical Society (APGEO), and Peru’s representative on the ISSMGE Young Member Presidential Group.
