The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is currently undertaking public consultation on proposed updates to the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) Scheme. SLR is pleased to have submitted our comments for review.

SLR is broadly supportive of the proposed 2024 amendments to the National Greenhouse Emissions Reporting Scheme. The changes would provide Australia with more robust estimates of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from the coal industry, which will assist us in meeting our international obligations in a transparent and better informed manner.

In our consultation response, there are a few key aspects, in particular the threshold to be used for the second tranche of reporting facilities required to use Method 2 or 3, that we believe will improve targeting of key emitters.
