Biography
Based in our Perth office, Nelson has 35+ years of international experience in civil, geotechnical and tailings engineering, mine waste management, and major project delivery. Recognised globally for his expertise in conventional and emerging tailings technologies, including filtered tailings and dry stack facilities, he has supported mining projects across Australia, North and South America, Africa and the Middle East.
His experience spans the full mine life cycle, from project development and operations through to closure and rehabilitation, across commodities including gold, copper, iron ore, alumina, and lithium. Nelson has led the design, construction, operation and closure of large and complex tailings storage facilities, mine waste infrastructure and water management systems.
Combining deep technical expertise with practical operational insight, Nelson supports clients with tailings management, mine waste engineering, dam safety, governance, risk management and GISTM compliance.
He is also a trusted independent reviewer and advisor, helping clients develop practical, sustainable and risk-informed solutions to complex mining and closure challenges.
