Biography
Grant Benn has considerable (over 30 years) experience applying geospatial analysis technologies across a wide range of sectors. These sectors include biodiversity conservation, environmental management, conservation planning, environmental and biodiversity screening, and renewable energy.
He has led and contributed to numerous projects as a technical Geospatial specialist, delivering expertise in spatial data development, spatial analysis and modelling (vector, raster and 3D) and the design, implementation and maintenance of enterprise spatial information systems. Grant led the development and implementation of SLR’s proprietary biodiversity and environmental geographic screening tool. He has also collaborated on the development of SLR’s site selection and linear route optimisation tool, including contributing to the development of supporting spatial databases. Grant has extensive experience in screening, site selection, and route optimisation for major linear and non-linear infrastructure projects. His portfolio includes pipelines, onshore and offshore wind farms, solar energy developments, harbour infrastructure, mining operations, hydroelectric plants, railways, and road networks.
Grant has worked on projects across Africa, including Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Ghana, Ethiopia, Egypt, Senegal, Libya, Rwanda, Burundi and South Africa. Outside of Africa, project experience includes Nepal and Tajikistan.
