Benjamin Young

Biography

Ben is a Senior Cable Engineer and has been part of the SLR Cable Team for more than three years. During this time, he has worked closely with clients to progress large HV cable system designs, gaining in‑depth understanding of cable thermal rating and studying complex installation conditions using both analytical and finite element approaches.

He has led the development of multiple cable thermal rating tools to model complex thermal environments and automate calculations, unlocking additional project capacity. Ben’s in‑depth understanding of cable systems allows him to apply industry best practice, balancing accuracy and conservatism in calculations according to data availability and the project’s level of maturity. He provides valuable studies for clients by advising on assumptions, assessing workability, and identifying optimisation opportunities.
