Challenge

SLR is supporting a client with consenting for a proposed up to 400MW electrolytic hydrogen‑to‑green‑ammonia production facility in Scotland.

Solution

To date, SLR has led and undertaken all environmental baseline, topographical, and utility surveys, as well as consultations, during the pre‑front end engineering design (FEED) stage of the project. SLR has been instructed to prepare the planning application and EIA, and has advised on future PPC licence requirements, marine licences, planning hazardous substances consent, and COMAH notifications for the project.

Impact

SLR worked closely with the client to understand their aims for the project and prepared a consent strategy aligned with these objectives. The strategy recommended progressing based on an outline planning permission approach to limit engineering expenditure ahead of project stage gates. The client is progressing the project based on SLR’s recommendations. SLR has proven itself flexible throughout the project, managing the consenting schedule and spend to align with Statkraft’s stage‑gate process.
