Proposed Unika Wind Farm Project, Zambia
Mphepo Power Limited (Mphepo) proposes to develop the Unika I Wind Farm Project, Zambia, including the proposed development of a Transmission Line. The proposed wind farm would utilise wind turbines to generate electricity that will be fed into the National Power Grid. The proposed Transmission Line will transfer the electricity generated by the Unika I Wind Farm to the Msoro Substation.
SLR Consulting (Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SLR), in collaboration with DH Engineering Consultants Ltd, have been appointed as the independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner to conduct the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) process for this project.
The Scoping Report for the Unika I Wind Farm Project and proposed Transmission Line, as well as the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the Unika I Wind Farm Project Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) was approved by ZEMA during 2019.
The ToR for the Transmission Line was approved by ZEMA during November 2020. The purpose of the Terms of Reference (ToR) is to describe the scope of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) to be carried out in respect of the proposed 132 kV – 330 kV transmission line proposed to be built from the proposed Mphepo Unika I Wind Farm project site to the existing Msoro Substation. The ToR includes the Regulatory Framework, Project Description, ESIA methodology and further stakeholder engagement, the ESIA schedule and ESIA Report structure and detailed ToR of the specialist studies.
