Mainstream: !Xha Boom Wind Energy Facility and Associated Infrastructure, Northern Cape Province
South Africa Mainstream Renewable Power Developments (Pty) Ltd (Mainstream) have an existing Environmental Authorisation (EA) to construct and operate an 235 MW Wind Energy Facility within the Hantam and Khai-Ma Local Municipalities, Western Cape. Mainstream are now proposing to amend the EA. The Part 1 Amendment involves:
- Changing the Holder of the EA.
- The addition of a 200 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to on-site Substation footprint.
- Amending specific conditions of the EA to include BESS as associated infrastructure.
SLR Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SLR), has been appointed as the independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner to compile the Part 1 Amendment for this project.
The Amendment was reviewed and approved by the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and the Environment on 28 July 2021 (EIA Ref: 14/12/16/3/3/2/1018/AM3). A copy of the full Amended EA is available for download below.
