Proposed Upgrading of TR28/1 between Vermont (Lynx Road) and Hermanus (Mimosa Street)

The Western Cape Government (WCG): Department of Transport and Public Works is proposing to upgrade a portion of Trunk Road 28 Section 1 (also known as the R43) between Lynx Street in Vermont to Mimosa Street in Hermanus. The project includes dualling of the bridge over the Onrus River, the provision of bus stops and dedicated turning lanes, the widening of the road reserve to the north by 15 m and the reseal of the pavement. SLR has been appointed to undertake the required Basic Assessment and Water Use Authorisation processes for the proposed project.

Status

On 16 May 2023 the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning granted and issued an Environmental Authorisation for the proposed project. In order to correct and administrative error, a Correction Notice was issued on 19 May 2023. A notification letter setting out the appeal procedure as well as the full Environmental Authorisation and Correction Notice are available for download below. All appeal submission must be sent to the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning within 20 days of the notification date (i.e. 20 days from 23 May 2023).
