Challenge
The St Paul’s School Discovery Playground is a feature play area focused around discovery, exploration, sustainability, diversity and community engagement. Located adjacent to the Possibility Hub Early Learning Centre, the design for this play space utilises diverse spaces which have multiple open ended uses.
Solution
Incorporating movements such as loose parts play, outdoor learning spaces, early childhood health and well-being and fine and gross motor development, the discovery playground provides opportunity for students, teachers and parents to get back to nature. The design aims to incorporate opportunity for community lead construction projects that are staged during the realisation of the playground.
Implementing elements such as student lead art projects through the use of painted totems and painted/ stamped pathway bricks, cements the playgrounds identity within the St Paul’s School Community.
Impact
The Discovery Playground has been embraced by the local communitty and will be a critical part of the Junior School’s play space network, providing opportunity for diversity in users from Pre-Prep through to Year 6.
