Challenge
Tait Systems is playing a crucial role in delivering a nationwide, encrypted, resilient, digital radio communications network for emergency responders as part of the New Zealand Government’s Public Safety Network. This network is being developed by Next Generation Critical Communications (NGCC), the government’s leading advisor on critical communications for public safety.
Tait Systems is responsible for building the Land Mobile Radio Network. The network is designed to provide secure, push-to-talk communications, location services, and encrypted messaging, ensuring emergency responders can communicate effectively even in the event of a significant natural disaster. The new emergency services network is being built for the New Zealand Police, New Zealand Fire Service, Hato Hone St John and Wellington Free Ambulance.
Tait Systems require support for site acquisition and consents, particularly in remote locations and for the programme to be delivered within the timeframes.
Solution
SLR’s Property Services and Planning teams are working with a team at Tait Systems to:
- Complete initial property and planning reviews on proposed sites, inclusive of site investigation and due diligence;
- Engage with private landowners, DoC, local councils and stakeholders to confirm viability;
- Complete on-site investigation, drone imagery, and manage landowner relationships;
- Negotiate and acquire the necessary land occupation rights (lease or licence) and access rights from landowners across the country;
- Lodge and process RMA consents with local authorities; and
- Lodge and process DoC Concessions for DoC sites.
In addition, SLR’s Ecology team supports the programme with ecological impact assessments, particularly when the towers are in ecologically sensitive/significant areas.
Our Landscape Architecture team also provides Assessment of Landscape Effects where required for the resource consent process.
We are continuing to support the programme to deliver this critically important infrastructure.
Impact
With SLR’s support, Tait Systems is continuing to acquire sites for the Public Safety Network to be rolled-out region by region across the country. Once completed, the new network will provide much needed interoperability and resilience for New Zealand’s emergency responders.
