Challenge

Our Landscape Architecture team members have been commissioned since 2006 by Stockland to provide a full range of Landscape Architecture and Natural Areas Management design documentation and site management services for the Augustine Heights extension.

The project has included 22 stages of streetscapes, one linear park, two pocket parks, three major bio-basins, conservation zones and approximately 30 hectares of forest rehabilitation.

The linear park included a BBQ and shelter, BMX track, half basketball court with seating terraces, handball courts and a kick-about space. The pocket parks included shelters and nature play elements. There has been a range of challenges on this hilly development, which SLR was able to develop cost effective solutions for that were inter-grated smoothly into the greater landscape.

Solution

The natural areas work included the planting of 117,000 endemic flora species, a range of erosion controls and 49 nest boxes targeting a range of known native species on site.

Two tree planting days were held on site to encourage community engagement into the sites varied forested area. The development also has strict Bushfire management requirements, and a specialised planting palette had to be developed, to ensure the sites stabilising, while being compliant from a fire management perspective.
