Biography

What is your name and role at SLR?

My name is Lewis Lamond, and I work as a Graduate Ornithologist at SLR.

Can you describe your role at SLR?

As a Graduate Ornithologist, I conduct avian surveys across various sites in the North of Scotland. These ecological assessments play a vital role in informing the development of renewable energy projects, helping to evaluate and mitigate potential impacts on local and migratory bird populations.

What does a typical day look like for an ornithologist at SLR?

No two days are the same in my role. I might be observing golden eagles in remote mountainous regions, counting geese along rugged coastlines and islands, or surveying agricultural landscapes bustling with birdlife. When I’m not in the field, I’m analysing data, writing ecological reports, and contributing to environmental impact assessments.

What unique opportunities have you experienced through your work at SLR?

Working at SLR has allowed me to travel extensively across the UK for fieldwork, professional training, and industry conferences. These experiences have broadened my ecological knowledge and helped me build a strong professional network. I’m excited about the continued opportunities for growth and collaboration within the company.

What advice would you give to someone starting their career at SLR?

Take full advantage of the learning and development resources available. SLR offers a robust support system and a welcoming, knowledgeable team. Don’t hesitate to reach out - there’s always someone willing to help you grow and succeed.
