We are excited to announce that James Hartshorn has joined SLR to support the continued development of our environmental management, permitting and compliance services in Canada. James will work with the SLR team to develop our service offerings in Performance & Assurance. In this role, he will further develop our expertise in environmental, safety, energy and social management systems, transactional due diligence and compliance auditing.

James has 25 years of consulting experience helping clients navigate the complex world of environment, social and governance (ESG) compliance and risk management. He has advanced degrees in science and business and is an Environmental Professional (Certified Environmental Auditor). His consulting focus has always been on strategy or “tactics” to help organizations enhance operational performance through formal management systems, and to evaluate organizational performance through audit and assurance programs. His experience covers the fields of environment, occupational health and safety, operational safety, energy, social and business continuity / governance.

He has substantial experience in helping companies design, build and evaluate management systems (including ISO 14001 for environment, 45001 for health & safety and 50001 for energy) and programs to manage risk, compliance audit, transactional due diligence, occupational and operational safety and international development. His work has taken him all over the World, including working as lead environmental and social consultant with the Inter-American Development Bank on significant industrial and infrastructure projects in South America.

James has worked on Performance & Assurance projects with organizations in mining, oil & gas / energy, power, infrastructure and manufacturing. He has worked in both the public and private sector. In recognition of his experience and credentials, he has been retained to provide expert opinion and testimony on a range of legal files.
