Advancing Resilience: Integrating Planning, Engagement, and Implementation

The Town of Acton and the City of Chicopee have been taking a proactive and integrated approach to climate resilience and flood risk reduction. Through participation in the Hazard Mitigation Planning and Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness programs, alongside targeted dam removal and river restoration projects, these communities are aligning planning, engagement, and implementation to address climate challenges and strengthen community resilience.
The presentation will provide an overview of community participation in the MVP 2.0 planning process, recent updates to each community’s Hazard Mitigation Plan, and the development of actionable strategies informed by community input to protect critical infrastructure, natural resources, and public safety. Acton and Chicopee will share how they have built on previous efforts to transition from planning to action, implementing solutions that reduce flood risks, restore ecosystems, and protect people and property.
