Power Networks

The energy industry and grid network is adapting to emerging technologies and hybrid solutions for generation and grid support. Working in both the onshore and offshore energy sectors, our team has extensive knowledge of the power network developed through decades of experience. We are optimally positioned to help you navigate the increasingly constrained GB grid, and for grid connection work globally, which we believe will become increasingly make or break for determining the viability of proposed development projects that can help take us to net zero.

Power Networks Services

  • Onshore and offshore cable system engineering
    • Spanning electrical cable system design for offshore renewable projects, including concept to FEED level for export and array cable systems, thermal rating studies, test plans, and cost models. We also support onshore developers with challenging connections in complex environments with existing infrastructure.
  • Dynamic cable rating studies
    • Using dynamic rating tools to more accurately model the thermal performance of subsea cables, reducing costs and improving power transmission, leading to significant capex savings.
  • Grid connection studies
    • A critical area for the success of new generation assets is the ability to connect to a grid connection or private wire, to ensure that generated power can be exported. We analyse substation connections for new generation projects, providing critical data on connection opportunities, grid viability, and associated costs, helping developers find the most suitable connections.
  • Power systems modelling
    • Undertaking power systems modelling and grid code compliance studies for renewable projects, and the wider electrical systems into which they are integrated.
  • TNUoS modelling
    • Transmission Network Use of Systems (TNUoS) charging is how the Transmission Operators recover the costs of installing and maintaining the transmission power network in GB. Our TNUoS prediction service based on our unique Digital Twin of the GB Power Network helps developers gain an understanding of how wider TNUoS charging will impact their projects up to year 2050.
  • Regulatory monitoring
    • Tracking developments in grid policy and regulation, offering insights into potential risks and opportunities. Providing strategic support, consultation responses, guidance on navigating industry regulations and ad-hoc advice from our expert team.
