Harrison Transit Oriented Development
Location
New York, USA
AvalonBay Communities, Inc. engaged MMI / SLR to assist in the planning and design of a transit oriented development project transforming a 3.78 acre site serving the Town of Harrison, NY train station into a mixed-use development. The project will revitalise the downtown community, provide a 475-space parking garage for MetroNorth commuters, and improve pedestrian access to the train station.
Located at the intersection of Halstead Avenue and Harrison Avenue, the project includes 143 apartments in three buildings, 20,000 square feet of retail space, and a 525-space parking garage for commuter, retail and residential use. The project is under construction and scheduled for completion in the Fall of 2021.
The TOD project is directly connected to the Harrison train station and incorporates pleasant, functional access for commuters. Two public plazas linking the building masses to the train station and the downtown streetscape are designed as focal points of the development. Significant coordination with MetroNorth was integral to the project planning and design.
Milone & MacBroom (MMI), now part of SLR, provided complete site design services for civil engineering and landscape architecture. We assisted in the regulatory process for local, county, and state approvals. This included participation in the preparation of both the Draught Environmental Impact Statement (DES) and Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) in accordance with requirements of the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQR). Close coordination with Westchester County Department of Highways and the Town of Harrison continues during construction.
