Fisher East Nickel Project

Client Name
Cannon Resources
Location
Western Australia

Challenge

The Fisher East Underground Nickel Project is located approximately 430 km north of Kalgoorlie, 223 km north of Leonora and 145 km northeast of Leinster in the North-Eastern Goldfields region, Western Australia. The project consists of eleven granted exploration licences covering a total of 372 square kilometers. The project contains four nickel sulfide deposits consisting of Musket, Camelwood, Cannonball and Sabre.

Solution

SLR has been undertaking a baseline soil and regolith field survey utilising surface and test pit sampling methods. Our team documented baseline soil fertility, geochemical and physical properties of the materials for their suitability to be utilised proactively for construction, and mining rehabilitation.

SLR has undertaken a static and kinetic geochemical assessment of the boxcut, decline, and development waste associated with an underground mining option. Our team has undertaken static and kinetic geochemical assessment of the tailings that could be produced from the deposits.

The soil and regolith study and static and kinetic geochemical study will be used to inform subsequent stages of the project, including development of waste rock and tailings landforms.

Impact

The baseline soil and geochemical assessments are being utilised by Cannon Resources to develop a mine rehabilitation material inventory and material balance. This data will then be used to verify that there will be sufficient material available for rehabilitation of the waste rock dumps, low grade ore stockpiles and tailings storage facilities over the life of mine.
