The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) recognizes outstanding engineering excellence with their annual Engineering Excellence Awards, a competition honoring exceptional engineering projects that display innovation, complexity, achievement, and value. In this years’ ceremony, SLR received the Bronze Award for their work with the Route 7 Culvert Replacement in Williamstown, Massachusetts. This featured project is one of the first in the Commonwealth to be designed to specifically match its unique stream channel setting. The design approach is a product of the Massachusetts Rivers & Roads Training aimed at reducing risks and river-road conflict zones through the application of river science to transportation engineering.

SLR Team lead, Roy Schiff attended the 2022 Excellence Gala held at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel joined by SLR team Greg Blake, Kwesi Brown, and Kim Guthrie as well as family members/spouses. The SLR team was pleased to celebrate this success with MassDOT who has been a long-term client for our team.

‘Working with MassDOT to create a more resilient transportation system has been fun and rewarding,’ commented Roy Schiff, Principal Water Resource Engineer/Scientist. ‘We have helped train staff, improve designs, and implement projects that will last longer and reduce conflicts between rivers and roads.”
