SLR’s Team collaborated with the Town of Greenwich on a comprehensive and innovative infrastructure and streetscape plan that aims to engage local businesses and the community in downtown Greenwich, a bustling shopping district in southwestern Connecticut.

Integrating the community needs and safety concerns, while also developing a new, activated space required thorough understanding of the historic and current needs of the Greenwich community. Thorough review of decades of reports and Master Plans prepared for the Town of Greenwich allowed SLR’s landscape architecture team to envision a plan prioritising public safety while reinvigorating the iconic Greenwich Avenue shopping area. An integrated team of services including civil engineering; transportation and traffic engineering; and planning developed a roadmap for improvements at key intersections including Greenwich Avenue and Elm intersection; Amogerone crossway; Grigg Street & Fawcett Place; and West Putman Avenue. The enhancements included kerb extensions, raised intersections, textured crosswalks, signage, lighting, and landscaping. In executing the Plan, public engagement remains a priority with a dedicated live website allowing residents to learn about the project, provide comment and keep informed of the updates and improvements as they are completed.

In June 2021, the East/West Elm Street Improvements were successfully completed to an eager community. Improvements including a focus on community spaces; safe and accessible walkways; better business interface; and multi-modal options which reinforce transportation efficiencies brought the community together encouraging night and day use of the corridor.

SLR is excited to continue our work with the Town of Greenwich and look forward to assisting the Town in the development of the Greenwich Avenue corridor!
