Project Objectives:
SLR was commissioned to provide a Peat Stability Risk Assessment (to be included in a planning application) based on ground investigation data provided by the Client.
Our Role:
The PSRA included a limited peat probing investigation to confirm earlier work at the site to determine the thickness of the peat and recommend modifications to the turbine positions and access route alignment to minimise the risk of being impacted by possible instability.
The PSRA comprised a detailed desk study of aerial photographs and a digital terrain model to identify potential areas of instability based on slope gradients and vegetation cover. Maps of potential risk areas were then used to guide the detailed walk-over survey and peat probing to confirm the office based assessments.
Whilst in the field, all areas of peat cover were noted and assessed in regard to possible impact on turbines, infrastructure and water courses.
