Carbon Capture And Storage - All-Energy Focus For SLR Consulting
Release date: 5th May 2009
Leading environmental consultancy, SLR, will be featuring its expertise in carbon capture and storage (CCS) at this year's All-Energy exhibition and conference.
The CCS process involves separating up to 90 per cent of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide (CO2) at its combustion source - usually a coal fired power station.
Showcasing its experience in this sector on its stand (B54) follows SLR's recent involvement in a major multidisciplinary study to assess the potential for geological storage of CO2 on the island of Ireland.
The study, which was carried out on behalf of the Irish Government, was lead by SLR principal Richard Vernon, who will also be speaking on CCS at this year's All-Energy Conference
Richard, who is based in SLR's Dublin office, said: "Carbon capture and storage is seen as one of the most important techniques for mitigating the effects of worldwide climate change in the medium term.
"Implementing CCS schemes could reduce the CO2 emitted from fossil fuel plants by up to 90 per cent. This could help fossil-fuelled energy generation become a viable low-carbon option for the future, helping to plug the UK's looming energy gap."
