SLR Consulting organises Energy workshop for US Embassy
Release date: 28th May 2010
Environmental firm SLR Consulting has helped organise a workshop on Marine Energy and Smart Grid Technology for the US Embassy in Dublin.
More than 150 business leaders and senior government officials from Ireland and Northern Ireland, together with representatives of US Government, companies and research institutes participated in the two-day energy workshop held at Farmleigh House in Dublin and the Parliament Building in Belfast.
The event was opened by Irish Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Eamon Ryan, who said: "The workshop will help us tap into the potential we have in Ireland, particularly off our coasts, in meeting Government targets for renewable energy."
US Ambassador Daniel Rooney hosted a reception for attendees.
The event focused on both offshore marine electricity generation and the application of smart grid management tools, which integrate intermittent power onto the transmission system.
SLR's Energy Director in Dublin, Nick O'Neill said: "The turnout indicates the vast potential for future collaboration by companies and research institutions on both sides of the Atlantic in renewable energy.
"The island of Ireland's coastline is amongst the best in the world for offshore wind, wave and tidal resources and both jurisdictions have ambitious plans to develop this resource into a significant cutting edge industry by the end of the next decade.
"SLR's involvement in organising this event helps to confirm our position as a strategic energy advisor to governments and energy companies.
The event was a joint initiative between the US Embassy, Northern Ireland's Department for Enterprise Trade and Investment, the Irish Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Invest NI, Enterprise Ireland, the IDA, the Sustainable Energy Agency of Ireland, IBEC-CBI and InterTradeIreland.
SLR has previously managed oil exploration conferences for the Irish Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, and mining investment conferences for the European Union in Southern Africa.
